This guide has been prepared in order to provide potential PublicMediaCamp (sometimes called PubCamp for short) organizers with a reference toolkit for creating their own local PubCamp. Please keep in mind that these insights are not edicts, but are recommendations based on our past experience creating unconferences, and from our experience in creating the 2009 national PubCamp in DC. We’re just a few days away from PubCamp and in order to make your trip as easy as possible, we’ve put together a short guide that you can download here. You can also click the map to the left for directions from Hotel Helix. The venue page on the wiki has some useful images of the building we’re using as well.

Lastly, follow the pre-camp buzz by tracking #pubcamp on twitter and/or following @publicmediacamp. We’ll be monitoring those and answering any questions if you have them while in route.

Lastly, we’re building out a digital footprint to help you all connect, collaborate, and share content. In the onset the following things will be useful:

1) This site will serve as our blog/hub for the national PublicMediaCamp in October, and for local ones in the future.

2) Visit the PublicMediaCamp Wiki, poke around a bit, and make sure you start thinking about the kind of session you’ll lead. Edit the wiki to add that information – we’ll schedule sessions each day of the camp.

3) Connect with other campers in the Google Group and make sure to follow us on twitter @PubMediaCamp for updates. The hastag we’re using for all media (tweets, posts, photos, videos) is #pubcamp.

We’ve created a digital footprint for you to follow in order to get the most out of PublicMediaCamp. Follow these steps and you’ll be all set:

1) Register for PublicMediaCamp! You’ll need to receive a confirmation email from us in order to attend, as we’ve got a limited amount of space at the event.

2) Follow @PubMediacamp on Twitter (we’ll use this for announcements)

3) Join the Google Group (talk with fellow PubCampers)

4) Visit the event wiki and add to it. This is where we’ll document all the sessions we’re hoping to organize. So if you’d like to organize a session or request one, this is the place where you’ll ultimately have to do it.
